What can I put in general waste bins?
Your general waste bin is for food waste, items which cannot be recycled and other everyday items.
Most items apart from hazardous materials or builder's rubble can go into your general waste bin. If your bin contains these items, we will not be able to empty the bin.
The bin should not be so full that the lid won't fully close, or too heavy as the vehicle has a weight sensor which will not allow a heavy bin to be emptied.
What can I put in recycling bins?
In to your mixed recycling bin you can put flattened cardboard, glass jars and bottles, drink cans and food tins and plastic bottles.
Please only put the correct items in your recycling bin to prevent contaminating the load. Contaminated loads will have to go to the landfill rather than for recycling. If your waste is contaminated it can not be emptied until your next collection once the waste has been correctly sorted.
It's important to keep your recycled items dry and your bin lid closed. No wet paper or cardboard should go in the bin and you should empty all cans and bottles before recycling. If your recycling gets wet, the paper and cardboard will stick to any glass items. This means we cannot recycle these items anymore. Wet paper and cardboard can also stick to the machinery and clog up the system at the recycling plant.
Plastic bags, plastic wrap, tin foil, shredded paper, polystyrene should be placed into your general waste bin, as we are unable to recycle these items.
