About the route

Saltwell Park is a beautiful Victorian park in the heart of Gateshead. It has lots of green space, pleasant paths to walk around and features; a lake, dene, maze, two playgrounds, bandstand and Saltwell Towers, a gothic mansion that has been turned into a café.

It is suitable for prams, pushchairs and bikes and most, but not all, areas are suitable for wheelchairs. You'll see lots of wildlife in the park including birds and squirrels, it also has a pets' corner.

How to get there

Saltwell Park is 20 minutes' walk from the centre of Gateshead and is easily reached by bike and by bus with many buses stopping near the park. Check www.gonortheast.co.uk (opens new window) for bus timetables. The park also has its own car park.
