North East transport plan
The North East transport plan (opens new window) aims to deliver transport improvements across the region up to 2035.
Launched by the North East Joint Transport Committee (NEJTC), this is the first transport plan covering Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland and Durham. It includes road, rail and public transport projects.
The plan includes an initial £6.1 billion worth of projects, including almost 300 proposed transport schemes. The schemes aim to improve connectivity across the region and offer sustainable travel options. This should help improve both the physical and mental health of people across the region.
Schemes are split into four estimated timeframes for delivery. These timeframes are shovel ready, five years, ten years and beyond ten years.
