Work required on Beweshill roundabout, A695 near Blaydon

Road users are being warned to expect disruption when construction work begins on Monday 25th October.
The works are intended to improve the traffic flows across the roundabout at the junction with Beweshill Lane, and to accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic levels from new housing developments in the area.
This new piece of work is required to widen the carriageway to the east of the roundabout, to improve safety where traffic exiting the roundabout needs to merge from two lanes into one.
The construction work will require the use of temporary traffic lights, and the work is scheduled to last for 12 weeks, meaning it will be completed in January 2022.
We are sorry this may result in some temporary problems with congestion, and we would recommend motorists taking an alternative route if possible, to switch to public transport, or to allow more time for their journey.
