Road closure in Blaydon on Sunday 24 April

Road closed

A short section of Blaydon Bank will be closed to all traffic to allow council contractors to carry out tree felling work on Sunday 24 April.

Local diversions will be signposted, to help traffic find an alternative route.

The works are required to fell trees which have been growing on land at the top of a stone retaining wall on the west side of Blaydon Bank.

The wall and trees are becoming unstable and are at risk of causing severe damage and posing a danger to road users and local residents.

The works will be done under a road closure between Whitmore Road and Loup Street. There will be a signed diversion route via Shibdon Road, Shibdon Bank, Tyne Street, Litchfield Lane and Blaydon Bank. Local access to residential properties will be maintained.

The works are being completed on a Sunday to minimise traffic delays.

The bus routes affected by the road closure are the 12/12A Blaydon Racer, 49 and 69, and these services will use a diverted route.

Driver Information Signs will be erected in advance of the works informing of the road closure. Local residents will receive a letter with all the details they need.
