Emergency road closure - sink hole on A694 at Hamsterley Mill, County Durham
A sink hole has appeared in the carriageway of the A694, immediately to the east of the junction with the B6310, resulting in the road being closed to all through traffic.
A diversion route is being established to divert all through traffic via the A1 Gateshead Western bypass, the A692, and the B6309.
For local traffic only, the A694 will be open within the borough of Gateshead from the roundabout junction with the B6317 Hexham Road as far south as Lintzford Lane. All other traffic will have to follow the diversion route.

Durham County Council is assessing the extent of the damage caused to the A694, and it is likely the closure will be in place for a minimum of seven days.
