Gateshead Energy Roadshows are set to advise residents on rising bills

Energy roadshows

The cost-of-living crisis is a very real concern for Gateshead residents. The autumn and winter months are fast approaching, and with the estimated rise in energy bills coming in October, many may not know how they will be able to afford the costs.

We have been working with Citizens Advice Gateshead to design specialist Energy Roadshows that will be hosted around different locations in the Borough in the coming months.

The Roadshows will provide free and impartial advice from energy advice specialists and help prepare residents for the energy crisis.

Free giveaways such as blankets, energy saving light bulbs and booklets will be distributed at the events to help guide people on how small changes around the home could help them save on energy and gas.

On the day you can come and see us for a chat, and book appointments in with our energy advice specialists at the events for more bespoke and detailed advice.

Each Roadshow will run from 10am to 4pm.

The dates and locations of the Energy Roadshows are:

  • Wednesday 17 August, Felling Library
  • Friday 9 September, Lidl Swallwell, Sands Road
  • Friday 16 September, Harraton Terrace Car Park
  • Friday 7 October, Gateshead Trinity Square
  • Saturday 8 October, Gateshead Trinity Square

Alison Dunn, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice Gateshead said:

"Whilst we are enjoying hot summer temperatures, its easy to put the thought of winter bills to the back of our minds, but the energy price cap will be reviewed again in October and the average household bill is set to exceed £3,200.

We're running these roadshows to start a conversation with as many local people as possible so we can help them to prepare for what's to come."

Councillor Catherine Donovan, Deputy Leader of Gateshead Council said:

"We know that our residents are going to face extremely challenging times this winter, with the cost of living crisis becoming a harsh reality.

These Energy Roadshows are designed to help and advise our people on how to save on energy and attempt to prepare them for the months ahead."

The Gateshead Roadshows are free and open to anyone to attend and receive free advice.
