We are changing how homes are let

We are inviting all current council housing tenants to have their say on proposed changes to our lettings process, at a forthcoming consultation event.
Your views are very important to us, so at this event we'll detail all of the proposed changes to the letting service, and you'll have your chance to share your thoughts and opinions to help shape the future of the service, and to make sure the needs of our tenants are considered in our new Allocations Policy.
The proposed changes include:
- how we house people who served in the Armed Forces
- how we house people who live out of the borough with a local connection to Gateshead
- the criteria around why we would be unable to house someone
- financial status of applicants, introducing thresholds for Council housing eligibility
- changes to how and why we would downgrade your application
- changes to the criteria for overcrowding
- changes to banding system for homeless people, depending on their circumstances
- change of tenancy criteria, including transfers, and changes resulting from the death of a tenant
- introducing a flexible tenancy status for homes considered in high demand or adapted for those with special needs
Date: Thursday 1 September 2022
Location: Civic Centre, Gateshead
Arrival: 9 to 9.20am (welcome drinks and light breakfast)
Duration: 9:30am to 12noon
