Have your say on public safety

Gateshead Community Safety Survey

We've launched a new online survey to help us understand how residents feel about public safety in Gateshead.

Using an online map, the Gateshead Community Safety Survey gives residents and visitors the opportunity to pinpoint any locations where they feel unsafe, tell us why and suggest what could be done to help people feel safer. We'd also like to know where you do feel safe, to help us evaluate our existing safety measures and build up an accurate picture of how community safety is perceived overall.

Councillor Angela Douglas, Chair of the Community Safety Board, said: "Gateshead is one of the safest places in Tyne and Wear to live, work and visit, with a low number of reported crime and disorder. As always, we are continuing to work closely with Northumbria Police and other partners to tackle anti-social and criminal behaviour and it's important to stress that this survey should not be used to report incidents when they do happen.

Its purpose is to help us understand people's perceptions and experiences of certain areas and how they feel about them. We want Gateshead to be a place where everyone feels safe and confident when they're out and about, so if there are routes that you avoid taking or places where you feel uneasy, please complete the survey and let us know. Likewise, if there's anywhere specific where you feel particularly reassured or perhaps now feels safer than it did in the past, we want to hear about that too."

People without internet access can can call into any of our libraries, use the computers for free and ask for help if they need it.

We need as many people as possible to share their views, so please encourage your friends, family and neighbours to take part in the survey too.
