Gateshead joins UK wide campaign to recruit more foster carers during the World Cup

Our fostering service has joined forces with Northumberland County Council to represent the North East in a nationwide campaign during the World Cup with the aim of achieving just one goal - to recruit more foster carers for children and young people.
Gateshead Council and Northumberland County Council have joined 24 other local authorities from across the country to support the Local Councils United team.
The team will share a video from each authority for each day of the World Cup and ask people to foster with their local council.
Football teams, carers, young people and families will feature in the videos during the World Cup campaign with the hashtag #FosterWithYourCouncil2022.
Cllr Gary Haley, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Gateshead Council, said: "Football brings people and communities together for a common purpose."
"As with football, this project will bring local authorities across the country together as a united fostering community to ask people to join our fostering team and support local children."
Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Children's Services at Northumberland County Council, said: "Northumberland County Council is proud to join forces with Gateshead and 24 other local councils across the UK to raise the importance of fostering."
Northumberland County Council is kicking off the campaign on 21 November, heading the ball over to Gateshead Council for 22 November. Gateshead will then pass the ball out of the North East and into the Yorkshire region.
The challenge then continues down the country to 24 more local authority fostering teams, with Medway Council providing the final video on Day 27.
You can find each Council's video on their own social media channels or alternatively, watch the videos from all 26 councils by visiting https://fosterwithyourcouncil.uk/local-councils-united/.
