New Health and Care Academy to offer qualifications, training and job opportunities in Gateshead

An innovative new academy programme is being launched in Gateshead, offering access to nationally recognised professional qualifications as well as training and job opportunities in the local health and care sector.

The Gateshead Health and Care Academy provides training and education for those who are looking to start their career in the health and care sector while developing essential knowledge of Gateshead services to effectively support our patients, services users, and customers.

Health and Care Academy

Those who attend the academy will gain a nationally recognised qualification, access Gateshead-based sector specific training to support employment and be able to engage with health and care organisational partners to explore the varied roles available across the sector, as well as get employability support such as CV writing, interview skills and mock interviews.

The three-week academy course will run both in-person and virtually on Tuesdays to Thursdays between the hours of 9.30am and 2.30pm from Monday 19 June. The sessions will also be recorded for those who are unable to join the in-person or virtual sessions, meaning the academy can be accessed by those currently employed or with prior commitments.

Those interested in joining the next cohort are encouraged to find out more at an introductory drop-in session to meet the course tutors and ask any questions about the academy. Anyone over the age of 18 can attend the session on Thursday 25th May from 4-7pm at the Learning and Skills Interchange Centre, West Street, Gateshead, NE8 1BH.

"We have so much to offer between our partner organisations, including a wide and varied range of roles with exciting opportunities for gaining qualifications and career progression.

"Gateshead is a fantastic place to work, and we couldn't be prouder of our offer for health and care teams in our area - from flexible working hours to perks such as access to the Blue Light discount scheme and other staff benefits."

Nicola McDougal, Strategic Workforce Development Lead at CBC Health Federation, said: "The Health and Care Academy is a great example of our partnership working in Gateshead. 

"Not only does it bring together all system partners to explore our workforce needs, but it has enabled us to offer real opportunities for people living in Gateshead, to gain training and access to vacancies in all parts of the health and social care system. 

This will enable people to grow and developed their skills and confidence, at any age, building the foundations for long and successful careers in a wide variety of roles within Health and Social Care."
