Celebrating 10 years at the heart of the Gateshead community
A shopping, leisure and student living complex is celebrating a milestone birthday this weekend after establishing itself as a valued community asset at the heart of Gateshead town centre.
Officially opened in May 2013, Trinity Square sits on the site of the former 'Get Carter' car park which was demolished in 2010. It was fully open by 2015, offering shopping, leisure, student, and office accommodation and a new central community hub for Gateshead town centre.
- 261,357 sq ft retail/leisure space over 35 units
- 346,677 sq ft accommodation for 998 Northumbria University students
- 27,000 sq ft office accommodation over four floors
Attracting over seven million shoppers and visitors each year and employing over 850 people, Trinity Square has won several national awards for the standard of its public toilets, virtual Christmas light switch on and innovative marketing campaigns during Covid.
This Saturday, 27 May 2023, Trinity Square will mark its 10th birthday with a free, family-friendly birthday party from 11am until 2pm. The event will feature live entertainment, arts and crafts, face painting, games and birthday cake.
The event will also allow Trinity Square to continue fundraising for the nominated charity Tiny Lives and the special care baby unit at the RVI in Newcastle. Trinity Square will unveil another milestone at the event with the announcement of it reaching the £20k mark with its fundraising efforts.
Staff who have worked at the centre since its opening will also be honoured at the event.
Tony Pickering, Centre Manager for the last ten years, said: "We're very much looking forward to this weekend and celebrating our milestone birthday. This is an opportunity for us to thank the local community, our staff, and retail businesses for their support over the last decade.
"The last ten years haven't been without their challenges, including the pressure on retail and the high street and, more recently, Covid and the move to online shopping. However, Trinity Square has continued to thrive during that time, and we now attract more than seven million shoppers and visitors each year.
"We've built a reputation for the quality of our public facilities, a friendly and safe space for all members of the local community and a fantastic free family-friendly events programme.
"We're now looking forward to the next ten years and building on the success we've achieved and our place at the heart of Gateshead town centre."
