Libraries colleagues recognised in Honours List

Two colleagues have been named in the King's Birthday Honours List for outstanding work in their roles at Gateshead Council.

Libraries and Heritage Manager Christine Myhill (pictured right) received an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) award for services to Public Libraries during Covid-19. Christine leads Gateshead Libraries' Children and Young People's Team and is the Chair of the Association of Senior Children's and Education Librarians.

Cultural and Arts Programme Manager Karolynne Hart (pictured left) has been awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal) for services to Public Libraries and to the Arts. Karolynne has been instrumental in developing and delivering ambitious projects that make accessible, diverse and creative activities available to Gateshead residents.

Councillor Martin Gannon, Leader of Gateshead Council, said: "Huge congratulations to Christine and Karolynne. These awards are testament to their passion and commitment to improving our residents' lives through the arts, culture and education.

I'm delighted to see not one but two Gateshead Council employees on the King's Birthday Honours List. They're wonderful ambassadors for our libraries service, the council and the North East."

  • Bill Fullen, formerly Chief Executive of the Gateshead Housing Company, on his OBE award for services to Housing
  • Lawrence Patrick Doherty, Project Manager, Department for Work and Pensions, on his MBE for services to the community in Gateshead
  • Dr Ian Pattison, Lately Chair, NHS Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group, on his OBE for services to the NHS
  • Peter Heath, Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, on his King's Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service
