Waste Collection Services, Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) Bookings Privacy Notice

Who are we and what do we do 

Waste, recycling and garden waste collections are carried out by Gateshead Council. The South Tyne & Wear Waste Management Partnership (STWWMP) is managed by Gateshead Council and provide the following services: 

Management and oversight of the borough's two HWRC's, including providing permits to tip waste at them. 

What type of information is collected about you 

  • name 
  • address 
  • car driving license details 
  • car number plate details 
  • waste permits approved 
  • we collect the appropriate justification detailed by you, which may include current health information and age (for assisted waste collections) 

How we collect information about you 

We collect information from you when you apply to use the relevant services via telephone or online via the website. 

Why we need your information 

Our purpose for collecting your personal data is to enable us to provide the service you have requested and the lawful basis for our processing is: 

  • performance of a contract to which you are party  
  • task in the public interest or in exercise of official duty 

Our lawful basis for processing of sensitive personal data is:  

  • substantial public interest 

Who your information can be shared with 

Our Corporate Privacy notice sets out the general types of information sharing that the Council carries out to fulfil statutory obligations, legal requirements and service delivery. South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership can share your information with: 

  • Suez, who manage the day to day site functions of the HWRC's  

Our lawful basis for this sharing is to provide a task in the public interest or in exercise of official duty and your consent is not required.  

If we wish to share your information with other council services or third parties for purposes outside of those listed above we will ask for your permission. 

How long we will keep your information  

We keep your information for as long as we need to provide services to you. We may also need to keep your information in accordance with legal or other obligations. Where we have no need to keep your data it will be securely destroyed. We keep a Record of Processing Activity (a requirement under the GDPR). Gateshead Council servers, remotely accessed by Suez site staff with password protected iPads.  

How you can update your information 

The accuracy of your information is important to us to be able to provide relevant services more quickly. If you change your address or email address, or if any of your circumstances change or any of the other information we hold is out of date, please contact the service on 0191 433 3000.
