Who are we and what do we do  

Parking and Bus Lane Enforcement is a part of Gateshead Council. We are based at the Civic Centre and provide the following services: 

  • parking enforcement 
  • parking permits 
  • bus lane enforcement 
  • the blue badge scheme 

This privacy notice provides specific information about how we process your personal data. It is an addition to the information contained in our Corporate Privacy Notice.   

What type of information is collected about you 

  • name 
  • address 
  • date of birth  
  • vehicle details 
  • CCTV images of vehicle 
  • health information  
  • information from the police  
  • payment data  
  • supporting medical evidence for blue badge scheme applications  

How we collect information about you  

We collect information about you through application forms sent to us on paper or via the website. We collect payment data via the Council for enforcement notices and pay by phone payments. We also collect information via our Parking Enforcement Officers and capture images using CCTV imagery. We also receive information from third parties such as the Police and DVLA. 

Why we need your information  

Our purpose for collecting personal information is to effectively carry out duties of parking and bus lane enforcement including the statutory provision of the blue badge scheme. 

The lawful basis for our processing is: 

  • legal obligation to which the data controller is subject such as the Highways Act 
  • task in the public interest or in exercise of official authority 

Our lawful basis for processing of sensitive personal data is employment, social security and social protection (if authorised by law). 

Who your information can be shared with  

Our Corporate Privacy notice explains information sharing the Council carries out. This sharing fulfils statutory obligations, legal requirements and service delivery. Parking and street works can share your information with: 

  • DVLA 
  • Marstons Holdings Ltd (bailiffs)  

Our lawful basis for this sharing is carrying out tasks in the public interest or in exercise of official authority and your consent is not required.  

If we wish to share your information with other council services or third parties for purposes outside of those listed above, we will ask for your permission. 

How long we will keep your information  

We keep your information for as long as we need to provide services to you. We may also need to keep your information in accordance with legal or other obligations. Where we have no need to keep your data it will be securely destroyed. We keep a Record of Processing Activity (a requirement under the GDPR). We hold personal information in secure electronic systems on Gateshead council servers.
