Highways Operations and Engineering Services Privacy Notice

Who are we and what do we do

Highways Operations and Engineering Services are parts of Gateshead Council. We are based at Shearlegs Road Depot and provide the following services:  

  • processing of the vehicle crossing and highways scheme applications 

  • handling requests for changes to the highway (such as temporary traffic light regulation orders, highways improvements, dropped kerbs, road humps, connections, adoptions, safety measures, adaptations for disability, maintenance to the highway, requests to investigate flooding) 

This privacy notice provides specific information about how we process your personal data. It is an addition to the information contained in our Corporate Privacy Notice.

We collect personal information to understand your needs and provide services. Information may include: 

  • name 
  • address  
  • contact details 
  • health information, if requests relate to disability adaptations  
  • payment details 

How we collect information about you

We collect information about you through your completion of our application forms either via the website or paper, we may check information against other records the Council already holds. 

Why we need your information

Our purpose for collecting personal information is to enable us to: 

  • carry out service requests effectively  

The lawful basis for our processing is: 

  • task in the public interest or exercise of official authority   

Our lawful basis for processing of sensitive personal data is:    

  • reasons of substantial public interest (with a basis in law) 

Who your information can be shared with

Our Corporate Privacy notice explains information sharing the Council carries out. This sharing fulfils statutory obligations, legal requirements and service delivery. 

If we wish to share your information with other council services or third parties for purposes outside of those listed above we will ask your permission.   

Where your information is held

Electronic records are held on Gateshead Council computer servers and any paper records are held in secure filing cabinets on Council premises.
