Gateshead Council Learning and Skills offers post-16 education and training to over 3,000 young people and adults each year. We work with residents of Gateshead who have had the least access to education and need help and support to access further education, training, and employment opportunities.

Work experience

Our learners with special or additional educational needs (16-25 years old), require work experience to help them understand the world of work. Placements can be between 4-30 hours a week and last for up to 52 weeks depending on the capacity of the employer or the learner need. This can be in any occupational area. Full support is provided to the employer and interviews with the young people can be arranged.

Donation of services

  • we need help to set up the community garden including expert advice and help building raised beds
  • employer visits for our young people to learn about the world of work

Donation of goods

  • gardening materials such as: raised beds, compost, seeds, plants, tools and equipment
  • any fabric, paint or arts and crafts materials and equipment for our craft classes for adults with special educational needs
  • any food items (in date) of any sort that we can distribute to our learners in food poverty

Donation of money

Donations that can be used to pay for bus transport to our educational trips for our learners with special educational needs who are unable to use public transport. Typically we do annual visits to Beamish Museum, Discovery Museum, Sea Life Centre and Vindolanda Roman Fort.
