Gateshead duo sentenced following anti-social behaviour order injunction breaches.
In an action led by Gateshead Council, with support from Northumbria Police, two individuals from Gateshead, have been jailed following repeated breaches of their previously imposed anti-social behaviour (ASB) injunctions, following a series of shocking incidents targeting vulnerable residents, that included cuckooing their properties and using them as a base for illicit activities, stealing money given to the victims in benefits, stealing food delivered by carers, physical assaults, as well as other forms of exploitative and threatening behaviour.
Under the terms of the injunction, Joanne Reay and Natasha Newton were forbidden from causing harassment, alarm or distress, or nuisance or annoyance, to any person in Gateshead, by using or threatening violence towards people or property, demanding money from any person using threats or intimidation, using another person's property for abusing drugs and alcohol, and taking money, food, and alcohol from any person without their permission.
They were also prohibited from entering Sheriff Hill, Beacon Lough, Whitehills, and Milton Road, Swalwell.
Despite warnings that a failure to comply with the terms of the ASB injunction would result in their arrest, and could result in them being jailed, multiple breaches occurred, and the defendants once again found themselves in Court.
Joanne Reay and Natasha Newton appeared before DJ Temple at Moot Hall on Wednesday 6 September, where both were sentenced.
Joanne Reay's suspended sentence of eight weeks was activated. Natasha Newton received a suspended four week sentence, and was warned that this would be activated if she breaches her ASB injunction again.
If you witness any suspected criminal incidents of anti-social behaviour, report it to Northumbria Police on 101, or do it online Report ASB to Northumbria Police (opens new window).
