Group volunteering expression of interest

Volunteering as a group is a great way for people to have fun, develop teamwork and learn new skills.

There are two options for groups to volunteer in Gateshead. These are:

  • corporate volunteer days
  • environmental Friends of groups

Corporate volunteer days

Corporate volunteer days allow individuals from a private sector organisation or corporate organisation to come together to take part in a volunteer activity. Activities are usually a one-off opportunity to volunteer for the day within Gateshead.

Activities vary and are agreed in advance and tailored for the group of volunteers.

As volunteers will be representing their employer and the organisation on the day rather than themselves, they will need to be covered by their organisation's Public Liability Insurance. This can't be provided by the voluntary group where the activity will take place or Gateshead Council.

Environmental friends of groups

These groups are made up of local residents who are informally volunteering in their local area with environmental tasks.

All environmental friends of groups take place within open spaces and parks across Gateshead.

If the group follows the correct process, Gateshead Council can provide Public Liability Insurance. The first stage is to complete the group expression of interest form. Once individuals are registered the volunteers will be covered for general environmental tasks such as:

  • litter picking
  • painting
  • planting
  • weeding
  • sweeping and edging
  • plant waste
  • spade work
