Help save money and the environment at Gateshead's first pop-up Reuse Shop

Pop up Reuse shop

On Saturday 25 November, the Waste and Recycling Visitor Education Centre, in Wrekenton, Gateshead, is hosting its first pop-up Reuse Shop, giving local residents the chance to browse and buy from a vast range of pre-loved and vintage items, including furniture, toys, collectables, and much more, at very affordable prices.

The Waste and Recycling Visitor Education Centre, based next to the Campground Household Waste and Recycling Centre, is hosting a pop-up Reuse Shop, in what is a first for Gateshead. SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK, who operate the waste facilities at the site on behalf of the South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership, have long championed the reusing of goods, with a network of Reuse Shops across the country. These shops sell items donated by residents which would have otherwise gone to waste, giving them a new lease of life, and offering quality pre-loved items at a time when many of us are conscious of what they are spending.

Hannah Fleming, Partnership and Social Value Coordinator at SUEZ, said:

"We really hope that residents will take the time drop by and browse what's for sale at the Reuse Shop on Saturday 25 November. It's a great place pick up a bargain; whether its golf clubs or tennis rackets, toys or furniture - our Reuse Shops are packed full of treasures and curiosities waiting for a new home. This is our first pop-up shop at Campground, and it's a great opportunity to test the enthusiasm for more regular pop-up Reuse Shops in the future."

Councillor Linda Green, Chair of the South Tyne and Wear Waste Management Partnership, said:

"We hope residents in the Gateshead area will visit the pop-up Reuse Shop and learn more about this amazing concept which offers pre-loved goods at very affordable prices. It's a great initiative that helps us reduce the amount of household items going to waste, which is both great for the planet and your bank balance. I hope it is warmly welcomed by residents".

Residents are kindly asked to arrive by car, as there is no pedestrian access to the facility. On-site signage will direct you where to go when you arrive.

The pop-up Reuse Shop is being held on Saturday 25th November 2023, 10:00am to 3:00pm, at the Campground Waste and Recycling Visitor Education Centre, Springwell Road, Wrekenton, Tyne and Wear, NE9 7XW.
