Weight loss football programme kicks off in January
A nationwide football programme that has been proven to help men to reach and maintain a healthier weight has kicked off in Gateshead, where funded places will be available for men living in the area from January 2024.
The six-a-side football club, organised by MAN v FAT Football in association with our Active Through Football programme, takes place on Wednesday evenings at Gateshead International Stadium.
The programme is aimed at men in Gateshead who have a BMI of 27.50 or higher. It first launched earlier this year and over the course of two seasons, 38 players lost an impressive combined total of 82kg.
MAN v FAT, an FA-affiliated scheme, currently has 8,000 players taking part in more than 150 leagues across the UK. The total amount of weight lost by MAN v FAT players in the UK currently stands at more than 600,000 pounds.
Before matches, the players are weighed, which is followed by a 30-minute game of six-a-side, with extra goal bonuses awarded to teams based on the amount of weight players have lost. Players receive additional support including healthy meal recipe ideas and tips on general fitness.
MAN v FAT isn't just about losing weight, it's about encouraging health-promoting behaviours, enjoying sport and physical activity in a safe, friendly environment, learning about healthy lifestyle and diet - and making new friends.
Players can join up at www.manvfat.com/football and they can get more information by calling 0345 163 1042 or emailing football@manvfat.com.
