Marquisway Resource Centre
Based at Team Valley, Marquisway Resource Centre's service is completely flexible to suit the interests, hobbies and aspirations of young adults with complex learning disabilities. The service aims to enable and inspire people to develop optimal levels of self-care skills and independence.
We provide service users with fun, meaningful activities that develop their skills and quality of life. The centre has an Autism Suite, iMUSE room, Snoezellen room, Boccia Court, Performing Arts studio and delivers Rebound Therapy. We have a holistic therapy room and an adapted gym is soon to be constructed.
We provide excellent opportunities for people who want to have fun by doing physically active and energetic activities. Some of the thrilling activities we can provide access to are canoeing, zip wiring, abseiling, go-karting, paintballing, high ropes and power boating.
We have an acclaimed Wheelchair Dance group which has won many medals at European Inclusive Dance competitions. Marquisway also has a proven track record in song and music production.
Some of our service users are members of the award winning 'Angling 4 All' sporting club, winning medals in regional angling competitions. Our Special Olympics athletes have won over 160 medals at Special Olympics national competitions.
In addition to our centre we also have a bungalow at Marquisway, which is a separate service for users with more complex needs requiring at 1:1, 2:1 or 3:1 service. This is operated in the same way, with activities, cinema and bowling day trips, plus involvement with other services where users can participate in sports competitions and activities.
Marquisway service users who want to develop their work-based competencies and secure paid employment and volunteering opportunities can access Next Steps Enterprises, gaining outcomes in retail, training, horticulture, recycling and catering and can be supported by GATES to search for and secure a job.
The team at Marquisway are extremely skilled in supporting people with complex needs. They are highly qualified in Rebound Therapy, Lego Therapy, travel training, Autism, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), and Total Communication approaches including Makaton and British Sign Language (BSL).
The team is supported daily by a physiotherapist and speech and language therapists. Several staff are trained as aromatherapists and can provide massage sessions at the centre.
