Blaydon day centre

Blaydon Resource Centre is located in the heart of Blaydon and provides support to adults with Dementia, mental health concerns and physical disabilities.

The centre has state of the art facilities, and the interior is designed in line with Dementia Best Practice recommendations.

We provide service users with fun, meaningful activities that develop their skills and quality of life. Activities include creative productions such as photography and arts and crafts; sports such as walking, bowling, swimming, and Special Olympics participation; cognitive stimulation activities such as quizzes, bingo, games, singing and cookery; and therapeutic activities including hairdressing, horticulture and reflexology. We also have a health programme that gives support attending eye tests, dietary advice, weight monitoring, and podiatry support.

We aim to:

  • promote independence and wellbeing by increasing confidence and self esteem
  • support people to develop, maintain and improve daily living and personal skills
  • support people to develop and maintain positive relationships with other members of their local community
  • develop individual support plans to maximise user strengths and abilities
  • provide support to carers by giving them a break from their caring role to pursue their own interests
  • provide people with access to a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities which are designed to promote the individuals wellbeing, social inclusion, continued access to the local community and to maintain and develop skills and interests

The highly qualified team at Blaydon are registered Dignity in Care Champions, qualified to Level 3 Health and Social Care Diploma standard, and Best Practice in Dementia Care qualified.

The service operates between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am to 3.30pm on Fridays. Closed on Bank Holidays.

Eligibility criteria

Gateshead residents over 18 years old who have a severe and enduring mental health issue or physical disability. The service is only available after an assessment of need. Referrals must be made through our Adult Social Care service.
