Gateshead Channel Panel Privacy Notice

Who we are and what we do 

Channel Panel is part of Gateshead Council. We are based at the Civic Centre, Gateshead and provide the following services: 

  • providing early support to people identified as vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism 

We use a multi-agency safeguarding approach to protect vulnerable people by:  

  • identifying individuals at risk  
  • assessing the nature and extent of that risk  
  • developing the most appropriate support plan for the individuals concerned 

This privacy notice provides specific information about how we process your personal data. It is an addition to the information contained in our corporate privacy notice.

We collect information about you from various sources to ensure that we meet your needs, including:  

  • face-to-face contact  
  • assessment tools  
  • from other departments within the Council 
  • Northumbria Police 
  • by secure email 
  • from those involved in your care  
  • by post  
  • by telephone  
  • direct link to the NHS Spine to get your NHS number  
  • direct link to the Great North Care Record for health information about you   
  • from other professionals  
  • from other agencies and charities  
  • from other departments within the Council  
  • from relatives or carers  

Why we need your information  

Our purpose for collecting your personal data is to enable us to: 

  • provide you with tailored support at an early stage 
  • prevent those vulnerable to radicalisation from being drawn into terrorism or extremism 

The lawful basis for our processing is:  

  • legal obligation to which the data controller is subject 
  • task in the public interest 

Our lawful basis for processing of sensitive personal data is: 

  • reasons of substantial public interest

Who your information can be shared with  

Our corporate privacy notice sets out the general types of information sharing that the Council carries out to fulfil statutory obligations, legal requirements and service delivery. Channel can share your information with relevant agencies. This may include:  

  • Police 
  • health agencies 
  • Home Office  
  • UK Visas and Immigration  
  • the Probation Service 
  • HM Prison Service 
  • schools and colleges 
  • Adult and children social care providers and commissioners 
  • Housing (private sector and social)  

We will share personal information with law enforcement or other authorities if required to do so by applicable law.  

Our lawful basis for this sharing legal obligation to which the data controller is subject and your consent is not required. 

If we wish to share your information with other council services or third parties for purposes outside of those listed above we will ask your permission.  

How long we will keep your information  

We keep your information for as long as we need to provide services to you. We may also need to keep your information in accordance with legal or other obligations. Where we have no need to keep your data it will be securely destroyed. We keep a Record of Processing Activity (a requirement under the GDPR).
