Taking place throughout August, and organised by Gateshead charity, Out North East, Pride in Gateshead will offer a rich programme of free events for everyone to enjoy.

Current plans include Picnic in the Park, at Saltwell Park, a Pride in Gateshead concert on Gateshead Quays, Pride in Bowling with Pelaw Community Bowling Club and a number of satellite events to be held in community venues.

Councillor Martin Gannon, Leader of Gateshead Council, said: "Having diverse communities where people can live and love, without prejudice, undoubtedly enriches our borough. As an organisation we value inclusivity and respect and are fully committed to community cohesion, which we know Pride in Gateshead will help to strengthen.

"We don't want anyone in the borough to feel isolated and are excited to work with Out North East on this project which will hopefully ensure that Pride in Gateshead can become an annual event for everyone to look forward to."

Peter Darrant, Chair of Out North East, echoed Cllr Gannon's words. "Being able to bring Pride to Gateshead for the first time is very exciting and it will be an event that is not only a celebration, but hopefully one that will be both educational and informative.

"We are delighted to be able to work closely with the council and are grateful for their commitment to promoting inclusivity and diversity and embracing the LGBTQ+ community."

Pride in Gateshead 2024 will help to mark significant milestones for both the LGBTQ+ community and the council. This year marks 55 years since the Stonewall Riots, which was the birth of the Pride movement, and 50 years since the formation of Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council.

Out North East are also organising Pride in Sunderland, which will take place in June, and Pride in South Tyneside, which will take place in July.
