International Women's Day 2024: Celebrating the work of the Millin Charity

Millin Charity

As our final story showcasing incredible women-led initiatives across Gateshead this International Women's Day, we're spotlighting the Millin Charity.

The Millin Charity provide holistic support services for women in Newcastle and Gateshead. Over the past 20 years, they've supported hundreds of women to gain economic independence. They do this by helping women set up their own businesses, gain employability skills, access training and be part of a supportive community of women working towards financial independence.

In Gateshead, the charity run 'Local Women Local Enterprise Gateshead' from their hub based at Greenesfield Business Centre. Through Local Women Local Enterprise Gateshead, they deliver a range of services for women-led businesses that are already established as well as those just getting off the ground. They also deliver a range of skills development and confidence-building programmes, ensuring that women receive a full package of support to achieve their goals.

One woman who has benefitted from the charity's support is Emma, the face behind start-up Pear & Panda.

Emma joined the Millin Charity in October 2023 as she wanted to gain as much knowledge as she could to set up her own small business. She is a mum of two small children and was inspired to set up her business making healthy snacks for children as she noticed there weren't many options in the shops.

The Millin Charity helped Emma with:

  • finances and pricing
  • market research
  • marketing and social media

Soon, Emma will be offering her products via Pear & Panda's subscription service so parents have fresh, healthy snacks available at all times for their hungry little ones!

We are really proud to support the Millin Charity who are doing fantastic things to empower women across the borough.
