Family learning

Family Learning encourages parents, carers, grandparents and their children to learn together. Mothers, fathers, grandparents and carers play a crucial role in their children's learning. Family Learning supports intergenerational learning and promotes community cohesion through engaging and empowering families. All activities are suitable for mothers, fathers, grandparents and carers. Family Learning is delivered in primary, comprehensive schools, community venues and Children's Centres.

Many mothers, fathers, grandparents and carers initially get involved through the motivation of helping their children and this is quickly succeeded by the development of their own skills and confidence. Activities not only improve the educational attainment of the child, but also the educational skills of the adult involved leading to them to gain qualifications including literacy and numeracy, volunteering and employment.

We work with our partners to ensure we have a variety of exciting and unusual activities for families to take part in. Our wide range of partners enable us to offer innovative and creative activities for families in Gateshead. We have worked with:
