New chief executive set for Gateshead

A new chief executive is expected to be appointed to Gateshead Council at a full authority meeting later this week.
Following a rigorous process, internal candidate Dale Owens, the council's current Strategic Director for Integrated Adult Social Care Services, has been selected as the preferred candidate.
His appointment, recommended by the council's Special Appointment's Committee, is subject to council approval. This recommendation will be considered by Council at its meeting on Thursday (23 May). Should the recommendation be agreed, Dale would take up the new role from 1 June 2024.
Outgoing chief executive Sheena Ramsey, who has been in post for seven years, announced her decision to step down earlier this year. She will be leaving the council at the end of this month (May).
Further details are expected to be announced in due course following Thursday's council meeting.
