Bag a bargain and help the planet - pop-up reuse shop returning to Gateshead

On Wednesday 29 May, Gateshead is hosting its second pop-up Reuse Shop at Birtley Community Centre following the success of the first pop-up at our Waste and Recycling Visitor Education Centre in Wrekenton.
Organised by SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK, who operate our household waste and recycling centres, residents can visit the community centre in Birtley for a range of pre-loved and vintage items ranging from furniture to toys and more.
SUEZ have long championed the reusing of goods, with a network of reuse Shops across the country. These shops sell items donated by residents which would have otherwise gone to waste, giving them a new lease of life, and offering quality pre-loved items at a low cost, at a time when many of us are conscious of what they are spending.
Hannah Fleming, Partnership and Social Value Coordinator at SUEZ, said:
"We're excited to be hosting our second pop-up reuse shop next week following the huge success of the last pop-up. Reuse shops are a great place to bag a bargain; we'll be selling a range of preloved items including sports equipment, toys, furniture, and so much more. All the proceeds from the sale will also be donated to one of our corporate charity partners, Macmillan Cancer Support. We look forward to welcoming residents next week!"
Colin Swinney, Service Director of Highways and Waste at Gateshead Council, said:
"It was great to see the amount of interest from residents at the last pop-up reuse shop and the enthusiasm for the wonderful reuse concept which diverts household items in good condition from going to waste which are then resold at very affordable prices, which is both great for the planet and your bank balance. I hope residents will continue to get behind this fantastic initiative."
The pop-up reuse shop is taking place in the main hall at Birtley Community Centre Ravensworth Rd, Birtley, Chester-le-Street DH3 1EN on Wednesday 29 May from 10am to 2pm. There is free parking on site for visitors arriving by car.
