A.L.D. Hairdressing Training Academy

About

ALD offer both non-accredited and VTCT-accredited vocational training in the hair and beauty industry for alternative provision students.

Students who attend ALD gain experience and life skills including presenting a professional image, working with others as well as gaining a range of vocational skills such as shampooing and conditioning hair, blow-drying and styling hair, facials, styling men's hair and more. 

ALD offer small group training with groups ran by tutors who have over 20 years of teaching experience in providing alternative provision. All products and equipment are be provided in the academy for students to use during their course.

ALD have experience in training students who have special educational needs such as learning difficulties, disabilities, autism. They also offer specialised courses to cater for the students specific needs. ALD offer small group training and can offer a bespoke programmes. The building is easily accessible for all with ramps and wide doorways and training sessions can be altered to accommodate various needs.

ALD also offer an online alternative provision with either live stream feed sessions or pre recorded sessions from their online platform.

Suitable ages ranges 

ALD offer the chance for 14 to 16 year olds to gain qualifications, but can extend this to those aged up to 18 years old, or 25 years old for those with SEND. 

Younger children can attend, on a group basis, but no qualification would be offered. 

Qualifications available

Children can gain the following qualifications:

  • VTCT Level 1Award in the Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector
  • VTCT Level 1 Certificate in the Introduction to the Hair & beauty Sector

About the teaching

All training is carried out at A.L.D. Hairdressing Training Academy at the following address:

Students can attend from locations including Gateshead, Newcastle, Sunderland, North Tyneside and Durham. 

Teaching is delivered typically with a ratio of 1 teacher to 8 students but this can be adjusted accordingly when required. 

The provision is open from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Students can attend upto 3 sessions per week, either full days or half days. Half day timings can either be 9.30am to noon, or 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Transport is not provided. 

ALD are able to provide urgent placements. 

The length of programme can be adapted to what is required for each student. 

Pricing 

Cost for sessions are as follows:

  • £80 per full day session
  • £60 for a half day session

ALD can provide money to students for lunch allowance and this can be added to the monthly training costs invoice.

How to apply for a place for a student

You can make initial contact by email or phone and then arrange a visit. 

ALD will supply you with the following forms to be completed and returned before the student can begin their training. Forms include:

  • referral forms 
  • risk assessments 
  • positive handling forms 
  • pastoral support plans
  • EHCP (if applicable) 

Contact with schools 

Once a student has began their training, admin will contact schools (or designated referee) on a daily basis to confirm attendance/non-attendance. 

ALD will also provide regular feedback along side a feedback report each term for each student.

Insurance 

ALD have current public liability cover and insurance certificates are displayed. 

They also have current employee liability cover. 

Safeguarding 

ALD have a compliant safeguarding policy in place which is reviewed yearly. 

Pre-employment checks are carried out in line with guidance. 

The provision has a designated safeguarding lead and there is regular training for all staff at the provision. 

Health and safety 

ALD have a health and safety policy in place with a designated member of staff trained to Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) standard. 

They have full risk assessment for the premises and carry out regular fire drills which are recorded. 

They have all required first aid equipment in place in line with RIDDOR procedures (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013). 

Data protection

ALD have a data retention policy in place which is reviewed regularly. Staff also receive regular training. 

They have a privacy notice in place that explains how they collect, use and protect people's personal data.
