River Tyne Academy

About

River Tyne Academy work with young people who are at risk of or have been permanently excluded from mainstream school. 

The cohort are key stage 3 and 4 learners who have behavioural support needs, SEMH and low level or unidentified SEND need. Their approach is trauma informed and works on a relational approach, which is tailored to meet their needs. To support this, River Tyne Academy have access to a range of in-house specialists: Mental Health and ASD, Thrive trainers and practitioners, Team teach trainers and 100% of staff trained, SEND specialists, Emotional literacy, Phonics, Access to an independent living suite, Personal development leads and Qualified subject teachers. 

In addition to this they are aspirational for our young people and they will follow the national curriculum, as much as possible, whilst studying at the provision. This approach supports effective transition back into mainstream. The curriculum offer includes: English language, English literature, Mathematics, Science double award, Art, Sport and Fitness, Catering, Geography, History (KS3), Culture and beliefs (KS3), Forest school, PHSE. 

The offer focuses on the development of Community, Character and Currency through a tailored approach.

Suitable ages ranges 

River Tyne Academy accepts children from Year 7 to Year 11.

About the teaching

All training is carried out at either in Deckham or Birtley. 

Students can attend from locations across Gateshead. 

Teaching is delivered typically with a ratio of 2 teacher to 10 students.

The provision is open from 8.45am to 2.15pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 8.45am to 12.40pm on Wednesday. Students can attend upto 25 hours per week.

Transport is subject to agreement. 

River Tyne Academy are able to provide urgent placements subject to availability. 

The length of programme can be adapted to what is required for each student. 

Pricing 

Cost for sessions are bespoke for each student. Lunch is inclusive.

Complete a referral form via email. 

Contact with schools 

Once a student has began their training, attendance/non-attendance is reported weekly.

They provide feedback at a minimum every half term.

Insurance 

River Tyne Academy have current public liability cover and insurance certificates are displayed. 

They also have current employee liability cover. 

Safeguarding 

River Tyne Academy have a compliant safeguarding policy in place which is reviewed yearly. 

Pre-employment checks are carried out in line with guidance. 

The provision has a designated safeguarding lead and there is regular training for all staff at the provision. 

Health and safety 

River Tyne Academy have a health and safety policy in place with a designated member of staff trained to Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) standard. 

They have full risk assessment for the premises and carry out regular fire drills which are recorded. 

They have all required first aid equipment in place in line with RIDDOR procedures (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013). 

Data protection

River Tyne Academy have a data retention policy in place which is reviewed regularly. Staff also receive regular training. 

They have a privacy notice in place that explains how they collect, use and protect people's personal data.
