Burial and cremation records
All cremation records and those relating to burials within our ten cemeteries are held by the Bereavement Services office at Gateshead Civic Centre.
We do not hold records for burials in church yards. You will need to contact the clergy/person in charge of the church for this information.
In the case of records for Catholic/Roman Catholic burials the local Catholic Father should be contacted.
Searching
We receive many requests to search burial records. Please help us by providing as much information as you can when making requests for searches. Identifying the date of death or within five years of the date of death is of great assistance to us when searching through our records. Our records are not computerised and the task can be very time consuming.
If you are unsure as to which cemetery you need us to search through it would be helpful if you could also give us the address of the deceased as in many cases they would be buried in the nearest cemetery to where they lived.
For example:
"Anne Jackson, Smith Street, Gateshead, 77 years old, died 1899."
You can send your request by email or post.
Cheques should be made payable to 'Gateshead Council'.
