Gateshead celebrates Co-Production Week with People's Voice

Co Production Week 2024 - Stock

Monday 1 July marks the start of Co-production Week 2024, a celebration of co-production and its aim to improve our social care services through Community Led Support.

The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) campaign promotes the use of co-production, which is about working in equal partnership with citizens and offers the chance for people to have real choice and influence over the social care services.

The theme of this year's campaign is 'Co-production: What's Missing?' and invites us to look at the need to go beyond familiar voices to increase equity and diversity in co-production.

In Gateshead, any adult who would like to be part of co-production can to join the People's Voice group.

The benefits of joining People's Voice include:

  • having your voice heard
  • sharing your personal experience of Adult Social Care
  • being involved in helping to improve services
  • socialising with your community and finding out more about the support on offer

Steph Downey, Service Director for Adult Social Care at Gateshead Council, said: "We know that working in equal partnership with our communities is the best way to improve the care, support and advice available for Gateshead citizens.

"We're already seeing the positive impact of co-production in Gateshead, and People's Voice is a fantastic opportunity for citizens in Gateshead to be 'in the driving seat' for our journey to improve the way people access help and advice from the council.

"Anyone in Gateshead has the opportunity to join the People's Voice group, and we're particularly keen to hear from our underrepresented communities to have their voice heard as we continue to co-produce and improve the way we offer our services."

For council staff and partners across the health, care and housing sectors, there'll be a programme of activity throughout the week to support co-production, including a 'Planning for Change' workshop to support the development of our new adult social care customer journey.

Anyone interested in co-production can get in touch with the team at PeoplesVoice@Gateshead.gov.uk or visit the page below.
