Population estimates and projections

The latest estimated resident population of Gateshead is 199,139 (rounded to 199,100). This is calculated by the Office for National Statistics for mid 2023.  It is projected to increase to around 204,200 in 2043.

The estimates are based on the number of births, deaths, and people moving in/out of the area (migration).
