Newest family hub launches offer to Wrekenton community

WREKENTON LAUNCH 2

The newest family hub in Gateshead held an event to promote the range of health and wellbeing services on offer, as the first of its kind in Wrekenton.

Gateshead Family Hubs launched across the borough in April 2023 and offer a welcoming space for residents to get the help they need on a wide range of issues by providing a 'front door' service.

Since the launch of Gateshead Family Hubs last year, which saw all the council's children's centres converted into hubs with partner organisations, the offer has spread even further.

Gateshead Family Hubs now operate from nine hubs in addition to community outreach locations, and the latest family hub is the first of its kind for the Wrekenton community.

On Wednesday 10 July residents, partners and civic guests attended a drop in event to find out more around the range of services available at Wrekenton Family Hub.

This includes:

  • Autism Hub
  • Baby and Toddler activities
  • Brownies and Rainbows groups
  • Community safety support
  • Early Help services
  • Family Voice parent and carer panel
  • Housing services
  • Library services
  • Maternity services
  • Parenting advice and support
  • Scouts group
  • Sewing Club and Adult Learning courses
  • Social groups for adults
  • Youth Club

Attendees were also able to meet staff and volunteers who work at Wrekenton Family Hub, as well as enjoy activities being held throughout the event for babies and toddlers.

Councillor Gary Haley, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Since the launch of Gateshead Family Hubs last year, it has been fantastic to see the number of hubs grow to offer support for our communities across the borough. Providing the best start in life is a top priority for us, and what's exciting about the hubs is that not only can parents and carers find out how to start and stay healthy, there are activities, advice and support groups available for every stage of childhood into adulthood. It is fantastic to be able to bring this array of health and wellbeing services to Wrekenton residents."
