South Sherburn

Overview

South Sherburn is situated in the outer west of Gateshead in Rowlands Gill close to Chopwell and Highfield. There are bus links to Gateshead town centre and Blaydon bus station, which is near a train station and the Metrocentre. Blaydon precinct has many shopping facilities and a large supermarket, and the Metrocentre has a large selection of high-street retailers. In the area surrounding South Sherburn there are some shops and a Tesco Extra. There are many nature walks close by including the Derwent Walk Country Park and Gibside National Trust site.  

South Sherburn consists of 30 one-bed bungalows, each containing Tunstall emergency care units with pull cords and pendants. These are technology solutions that can help you to manage many risks around the home, and alert caregivers in an emergency. The bungalows all have open-plan gardens and parking is available on site. There is a Mobile Sheltered Scheme Officer, who is contactable Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm, providing support and advice to residents. The charity MHA Communities (formerly Live at Home), who are based in Chopwell, also run from South Sherburn, encouraging activities such as breakfast clubs.  

On site there is a separate communal lounge for residents' use. The lounge runs an activity schedule where residents come together to relax and socialise.
