Gateshead by-election

Following the resignation of Councillor Sonya Hawkins, a by-election will take place for the Whickham North ward on Thursday 24 October.

Key dates for the by-election are as follows:

• 19 September - notice of election published
• 27 September, 4pm - nominations close
• 30 September, 4pm  - list of candidates available
• 8 October - deadline to be included on the register of electors in order to vote
• 9 October, 5pm - deadline for new applications to vote by post
• 16 October, 5pm - deadline for new applications to vote by proxy
• 24 October - polling day will take place during usual voting hours, 7am - 10pm
• 24 October - 10pm the poll closes, the count will take place at 10pm
