Shiremoor Adventure Playground Trust

About

Shiremoor Adventure Playground is a community-based, inclusive adventure playground, catering for children and young people of all abilities. The playground is owned and managed by North Tyneside Council which works in partnership with Shiremoor Adventure Playground Trust. Admission is free!

Public opening times are open access, with children aged eight and over able to come and go as they please. Children aged under-eight must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Friendly Playworkers are always on hand to help out and support children to use the equipment. Refreshments are for sale at the small café run by local volunteers and supported by the Shiremoor Adventure Playground Trust.

The playground provides dedicated sessions for children with disabilities (please ask for details). The accessible play centre is also equipped with a kitchen, toilets and changing facilities which include a hoist, shower and changing bed.

The site has a large outdoor playspace including zip-wires and basket swings. Roller skates and other equipment are freely available from the centre for use across the site. There is an area for under-eights to play away from the older children if needed and a large wooden play structure for climbing, running, hiding... Let your imagination lead. A tree house and play huts offer the opportunity for setting up cosy dens. A wildlife pond is located to the rear of the site (fenced off for safety) and fire pits are available for use with support from the Playworkers. Fully accessible toilets are available in the centre, as is a Community Cafe selling drinks and snacks.

Near the centre is an allotment area where the children grow seasonal vegetables and where the small animals are housed, including chickens, guinea pigs and Nancy and Mavis, our Kunekune pigs who love their vegetable peeling scraps delivered by the local community!
