One day closure for maintenance of Redheugh Bridge
The Redheugh Bridge that carries the A189 over the Tyne between Gateshead and Newcastle will be closed to all traffic on Sunday 16th February for routine maintenance.
The works will start at 6am and we expect the road to re-open by 6pm at the latest.
We need to provide a safe working area for our staff as they work on maintaining the combined drainage and kerb on both sides of the carriageway.
We will also be replacing pedestrian guardrails, completing some patch repairs on the road surface and renewing road markings.
Drivers will be diverted to the Tyne Bridge while the Redheugh Bridge is closed, and this may increase journey times. National Highways have been informed of the potential impact on A1 traffic.
Pedestrians will still be able to use the existing footway on the bridge.
The works have been planned to avoid Newcastle United home games and events at the Utilita Arena.
The day of maintenance work is not related to works we previously surveyed to repair copings on the western face of the bridge at the north end.
