Digital Functional Skills (DFS)

Programme overview

Digital Functional Skills Qualifications are available at entry level 3 and level 1.

The qualifications are nationally recognised and equip learners with the skills necessary to succeed in work, further education and everyday life.

We offer taught programmes with regular start dates throughout the year; enrolment on the appropriate programme will be agreed at initial assessment stage.

Our programmes run at different times throughout the week.

Programme content

The content of the qualifications is based on the National Standards and covers 5 areas:

  1. using devices and handling information
  2. creating and editing
  3. communicating
  4. transacting
  5. being safe and responsible online

Who this course is for

The DFS courses are for anyone who needs to update their skills:

  • for employment purposes
  • to gain access to further or higher education
  • to build confidence
  • to provide support to children/ grandchildren

Experience and knowledge needed

No specific experience required. A short initial assessment will be completed to help us assess your needs and choose a suitable course for you.

Materials and equipment

Access to a device and a Wi-Fi connection is recommended but is not essential. Please bring photographic ID to your initial assessment appointment.

We provide all course materials and learning resources.

Assessment

Assessment is an ongoing process which will focus on your individual learning goals. Personalised targets will be reviewed throughout the programme in preparation for the final examinations which take place during our examination periods.

Accreditation 

The DFS programmes offer the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

You will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the examinations.
