ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

Programme overview
ESOL programmes provide English support to those learning English as a second language. The programmes aim to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
The qualifications are nationally recognised and equip learners with the skills necessary to communicate effectively in work, education and everyday life within the UK.
We offer taught ESOL programmes in Gateshead at different times throughout the week. Eligibility and appropriate classes will be discussed during your assessment appointment.
Programme content
The ESOL programmes may include:
- speaking and listening skills
- vocabulary required for everyday life
- spelling skills
- grammar skills
- writing for different purposes
- reading skills
Who this course is for
The ESOL programmes are for anyone who is learning English as their second language and who hopes to:
- gain access to further or higher education
- develop skills
- build confidence
- provide support to children/ grandchildren
Experience and knowledge needed
No experience required. A short initial assessment will be completed to help us assess your needs and choose a suitable course for you.
Materials and equipment
You will need a pen and a notebook. Please bring photographic ID and benefit/income information to your initial assessment appointment.
We provide all course materials and learning resources.
Assessment
Assessment is an ongoing process which will focus on your individual learning goals. Personalised targets will be reviewed throughout the programme in preparation for the final examinations which take place during our examination periods.
Accreditation
The ESOL programmes offer the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification.
You will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the examinations.
