Level 4 Learning and Skills Mentor

Requirements 

  • Level 2 Maths and English
  • employed for a minimum of 30 hours working week
  • regular weekly mentor to mentee engagement, providing structured reviews, goal and target setting, monitoring of progress and feedback to relevant professionals 
  • minimum of 3 formal observations of practice captured while on programme 
  • 12 months on programme and 3-month window for End Point Assessment - must be employed for full duration of apprenticeship
  • 'off the job' training must be provided, a minimum of 6 hours a week
  • support from an employment mentor with monthly reviews. 

What you'll do at work

  • roles and responsibilities of a mentor, understanding the organisational and professional boundaries
  • mentoring theory and models, plus how to apply this theory to practice
  • methods of communication to maintain the mentoring relationship
  • how to plan for mentoring sessions and review and revise action plans 

Assessment methods 

  • monthly taught session online (timetabled subject to needs of staff/apprentice)
  • online learning via Google Classroom
  • observations of mentoring engagement
  • reflective assignments with product evidence relevant to mentoring role and professional responsibilities
  • professional discussions

End point assessment 

End point assessment will take place in the final 3 months, dependant on learner progress. The assessment will consist of: 

  • professional discussion underpinned by portfolio of evidence
  • observation of mentoring practice, followed by Q and A
