Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship

Requirements 

  • Level 2 Maths and English
  • vocational area of expertise - for example, if delivering Digital programmes the individual would have relevant qualifications and industry knowledge
  • employed for a minimum of 30 hours working week, delivering training/teaching to age 16+ learners
  • regular weekly engagement of teaching and assessment practices 
  • minimum of 3 formal observations of practice captured while on programme 
  • 18 months on programme and 3-month window for End Point Assessment. Must be employed for full duration of apprenticeship
  • 'off the job' training must be provided, a minimum of 6 hours a week
  • support from an employment mentor with monthly reviews

What you'll do at work

  • pedagogical theory and how to apply this theory to practice 
  • principles of designing, planning, and organising curriculum 
  • methods for creating and adapting inclusive learning resources 
  • application of principles and practices of assessment and feedback 
  • behaviour management and barriers to learning, and ways to overcome them and adapt teaching 
  • coaching and mentoring principles and techniques 

Assessment methods 

  • term time weekly taught session at Gateshead Interchange Mon or Thurs 4-6pm (subject to needs of staff/apprentice)
  • online learning via Google Classroom
  • observations of teaching and coaching engagement
  • reflective assignments with product evidence relevant to planning, teaching, assessment
  • professional discussions

End point assessment 

End point assessment will take place in the final 3 months, dependant on learner progress. End point assessment will consist of: 

  • professional discussion underpinned by portfolio of evidence 
  • observation of teaching practice, followed by Q&A
