Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship

Requirements 

  • Level 2 Maths and English or GCSEs C/4 or above
  • a minimum of 30 hours working week 
  • 21 months on programme and 3-month window for end point assessment. Must be employed for 24 months. 
  • 'off the job' training must be provided, a minimum of 6 hours a week
  • support from an employment mentor with monthly reviews
  • attend full day session every other month and online 1 hr sessions in between this

Includes core elements and chosen specialist area elements (SEND, SEMH or Curriculum area) 

  • legislation, policies, processes (core and specialism) 
  • statutory and non-statutory frameworks (core and specialism) 
  • reflective practice 
  • theories of learning and child development 
  • advancing Learning 
  • behaviour for Learning 
  • planning and assessment(core and specialism) 
  • communication 
  • working with others 
  • coaching/mentoring others (linked to specialism) 
  • promoting learner mental health and wellbeing 
  • professionalism 
  • tools available for assessment and strategies to advance learning in specialism 

Assessment methods 

  • taught session at Gateshead Interchange 9.30am-3.30pm  
  • observations in the workplace
  • reviews to completed by mentor 
  • professional discussions

End point assessment 

End point assessment will take place in the final 3 months, dependent on learner progress. End point assessment will consist of: 

  • professional Discussion underpinned by portfolio of evidence
  • observation of practice (Must include delivery)
