Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools/Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

Requirements 

  • Level 1 Maths and English Functional Skills (not ESOL) or GCSE grade 3/4 or D/E or considerable experience in a school setting
  • must have been accepted on placement from a school of their choice. Placement must be for one full day or two half days per week

Content 

  • child and young person development age 0 - 19 
  • safeguarding the welfare of children and young people 
  • communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults 
  • equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people 
  • schools as organisations 
  • help improve own and team practice in schools 
  • maintain and support relationships with children and young people 
  • support children's and young people's health and safety 
  • support children and young people's positive behaviour 
  • support learning 

Assessment methods 

  • taught session at Gateshead Interchange weekly. Monday morning's, 9:30-11:30 term time only
  • written portfolio work 
  • observations in the workplace
  • witness testimonies completed by mentor
  • professional discussions

Costs

The costs of these courses will be met by the government if the learner earns less than £25,000. If the learner earns more than this amount the costs are as following: Award £336.00, Certificate £708.50.
