Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools

Requirements 

  • already working in a school as a Teaching Assistant 
  • completed Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools  
  • if not working in a school, must have been accepted on placement in a school of their choice. Placement must be for one full day or two half days per week

Content 

  • communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults 
  • schools as organisations 
  • support learning activities 
  • promote children and young people's positive behaviour 
  • develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults 
  • promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people 
  • support assessment for learning 
  • engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings 
  • support children and young people's health and safety 
  • understand child and young person development 
  • understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young people 
  • plan and deliver learning activities under the direction of the teacher
  • Support disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs.  

Teaching

Taught session at Gateshead Civic Centre Headwork's room weekly.  

Tuesdays 4.30 -6.30 

Assessment methods 

  • written assignments  
  • observations in the workplace
  • witness testimonies completed by mentor
  • professional discussions

Costs

If the learner is earning less than £25,000 the cost of the course will be covered by the government and is free to the learners. If the learner is earning more than £25,000 the cost is £2225.
