An introduction to sewing

Course overview
Are you interested in learning a new skill? During this course, you will take part in a sewing project to create a hand-sewn item. Following an introduction to different sewing stitches, you will practise and use three specific stitches to create your own individual sewing project. This course aims to develop your skills in sewing as well as promoting positive mental health through crafting.
Course content
You will learn how to use a range of basic stitches including a running stitch, a blanket stitch, and an overlock stitch that can then be applied to other projects. As well as this, you will learn different techniques such as adding embellishments to your project. You will learn how to attach buttons and sew an applique fabric flower, which will enable you to create your own personalised product.

Parents / carers and relatives of school age children or community venues.
Materials and equipment
None
Assessment
Your tutor will assess your work and photograph the things you have made as evidence of your hard work. You will work on targets together to show your learning over the course.
