Total course hours
2 hours per week (approximate completion in 1 year). There will be extra assignments to complete at home.
Course overview
Would you like to take your first steps into a career in childcare or are you a parent who would like to support your young child at home better? This course is ideal for parents or carers to build an understanding of child development and how best to support them at home. This qualification encourages an understanding of the knowledge and the skills needed to care for young children. It covers children's growth, learning and development. There are also units to help with self-development and looking at your next steps in your chosen career.
Course content
You will cover topics such as communicating with children, engaging children through activities, supporting learning and planning for the care of children's physical and emotional needs. You will also learn about practical health and safety with young children. Over the course, you will build an understanding of child development and create resources, which you can use with young children to help them thrive.
Who this course is for
Learners who want to take first steps into a career in childcare or parents of young children (0-5).
Materials and equipment
All materials will be provided by Learning and Skills tutors.
Assessment
The course will be assessed through the creation of a portfolio of evidence consisting of written coursework, posters, leaflets and practical tasks.
Accreditation
You can receive a Level 1 in Caring for Children (Award, Certificate and/or Diploma).
