Programme overview

Whether you want to decorate cakes for friends and family or begin a career in cake decorating and sugarcraft, this course is for you. You will be introduced to cake decorating and sugarcraft techniques, giving you the knowledge and skills to take your cake decorating to the next level. You will make cake toppers and decorations using edible pastes including small models and a wired flower and foliage which will have a seasonal theme. The classes will provide a positive and friendly environment to meet new people and learn new skills.

Programme content

You will make four or five seasonally themed cake decorations/toppers which can be used to decorate a celebration cake. In doing so you will be introduced to the materials, tools, equipment, and techniques needed to make each decoration. You will learn how to select the most suitable paste (sugarpaste, modelling paste or flower paste) for each project. You will be taught how to use a range of cake decorating and sugarcraft tools and equipment effectively and safely, and how to adapt commonly available kitchen and craft tools. You will be taught core cake decorating and sugarcraft techniques that you will be able to use to make your own projects following the course.
