Upcycle your clothes for creative wellbeing








Programme overview
Upcycling clothes creatively is a great way to prolong the life of your clothing, to save money and to develop your creative talents. You'll learn to design, plan and transform your garments into something unique and individualised. Whilst you'll also contribute to saving the planet, come and release your inner fashionista.
Programme content
The course will cover taking accurate measurements using accurate cutting out methods, learning a variety of sewing processes such as seams, fastenings and hems. You will also learn how to select and use correctly a range of materials and equipment as well as pressing and finishing methods, using the sewing machine, choosing and using sewing and dressmaking patterns.
Who this course is for
The course is aimed at anyone with an interest in upcycling and transforming clothes and textiles. This includes complete beginners who want to learn a new skill and those with some sewing experience who want to enhance their existing skills and knowledge in this field.
Experience and knowledge needed
No prior knowledge or experience necessary. All instructions will be provided.
Materials and equipment
You will need to bring your basic sewing tools such as scissors, pins, needles, thread, thimble, tape measure, etc. You'll also need to bring the items of clothing and textiles that you want to upcycle. To help you, the tutor can give you a list of the equipment you'll need.
There will be sewing machines, pressing equipment and a variety of sewing and cutting tools available for you to use during the sessions.
Assessment
Your tutor will discuss and observe you during the course so that maximum amount of support and guidance can be provided to help you achieve your own personal goals. You will also complete an Individual Learning Plan to record your performance and feedback each week. Your tutor will use a range of different teaching, learning methods and assess your learning which may include quizzes, question and answer and discussions. You will be encouraged to share your work with the group, consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions in a supportive environment.
